Health Services
Primary medical care is provided in Madison County by several physicians and clinics in Colbert, Comer and Danielsville. Services include treatment of acute and chronic health problems and referral to a specialist as needed. Preventive services such as physical exams and family planning are offered.
The Madison County Health Department is in Danielsville and has an access station in Colbert. Registered nurses, nurse practitioners and licensed practical nurses provide communicable disease control, treatment and tracking of venereal diseases, tuberculosis, cancer and other diseases, family planning and children’s medical services.
A sanitarian has the responsibility for inspecting public water supplies, private wells, sewerage and septic systems, eating establishments and all facilities that produce and handle food.
Tugaloo Home Health Care Services is just one of the many health care agencies and hospice programs that are available in Madison County.
Ambulances are dispatched from the central facility in Danielsville and stations are located in Comer, Danielsville, Hull/Sandford and Ila. The county has an E-911 Emergency System to facilitate access to emergency care. Community based First Responders are an integral part of the Emergency Response.
The facility for Colbert Medical Center Med Link is on the corner of Highway 72 and Charlie Morris Road in Colbert.
Counselors at Advantage Behavioral Health Systems provide in-house counseling and referrals in emergency situations to the mental health department of Athens and Augusta Regional Medical Center.
A long-term, 116 bed health care center is operated in Comer, under the auspices of Ty Cobb Healthcare Systems, Inc. of Royston. A new administrative wing and other expansion projects have been completed recently at this health care facility.
Family dental care is provided by a professional staff at a clinic in Danielsville. Pharmacies are located in Colbert, Comer, Danielsville and Hull.
